  1. We went to one IEP meeting in 2018 — and saw these guys were clueless with regards to neuro-diverse kids. IEP coordinator, at least, had a heart but rest of them did not. The school counselor was literally eye-rolling and throwing shade through the whole meeting. Principal wins ‘Middle School Principal of the Year for Maryland in 2019’ but took weeks to respond to numerous emails. Don’t believe the hype. He and the rest of the gang are taking credit for the work that Sylvan, C2 Tutoring, Lindamood-Bell, Abacus Math, Mathnaseum, Kumon, et al are doing in this part of MoCo. The tutoring places bloom like a thousand flowers over here to make up for a rotten curriculum. Too bad the Silver Spring crowd think the ‘magic’ happens inside the school and are demanding a re-district. They are believing Central Office’s Corporate Comms…and who could blame them? The PR is pretty amazing…MCPS seems to get a story in the NYT every other week about how Helsinki and the Masters of Rockville are the top in K-12. Yeah, right. (Somehow the Kirwan Commission’s stark review of the state of Maryland public schools is never mentioned…)

Make no mistake — if you want your junior scholar to succeed in this joint have a really good working memory, no cognitive hiccups and some cash for tutoring. Cheaper than private school — yes, but get your scholar ready for a long day. Oh and don’t forget for your $3 billion in taxes a year funds a nearly fifty year old Robert Frost facility filled with mold, asbestos and lead…but thankfully every MCPS employee will get a sweet pension that lasts as long as the homeowners can withstand 9% increases in property taxes every other (non-election) year…
