Ms. Sullivan was great. We had very good experience with Mr. Leaman, the Asst. Principal, when we had to deal with issues with my son. I felt I was listened to and the school was willing to work with me towards the goals for my son.

Ms. Sullivan is excellent. I get the feeling the kids are put into classes with teachers who are able to work with ASD kids. The administration was supportive. Overall experience was good and my son did learn practical and social skills here.

We are happy with the Asperger’s program at Tilden. Staff are extremely knowledgeable, professional, responsive, creative, patient, and excellent communicators. They have created a supportive environment for the children and parents. And it seems like all teachers, even those not in the program, are on board as well as the administration. I really cannot say enough good things about this program and the support it provides. Coming from an elementary school with no support has made a huge difference in my child’s performance.

Overall, Tilden Middle School is an excellent school; however, if your child has a mild learning disability you need to carefully monitor your child’s progress. My child was doing horrible in math and his math teacher didn’t communicate with me at all about my child’s progress…until the parent/teacher conference 2.5 months AFTER the school year begun. While in the parent/teacher conference, all the teacher did was complain about my child who has ADHD and an IEP which states such. Either this teacher was not properly trained to deal with children who have ADHD or she just didn’t care. We have since switched my child to another class and he is thriving and doing much better. My advice to parents, if your child is complaining about the pace of a class take them seriously and talk to an administrator. I did this, but I was told that “some children are able to rise to the occasion.” While this may be true, I knew this was not the case with my child, but I was met with negativity and resistance when I asked about changing my child’s math class. Thank goodness my child’s guidance counselor expressed the same concern and pushed the issue and changed my child’s math class (despite my pleas early on in the school year). If you have a child with an IEP, closely monitor his or her progress and stay involved and communicate with your child’s teacher and if you get a teacher who is either unwilling or unable to reciprocate the communication, act accordingly.
